Louis-Victor Bak - Piano

Biography

Born in France and currently based in London, Louis-Victor Bak is a solo and chamber music pianist. After beginning the piano at the age of fourteen following seven years of flute studies, Louis-Victor was taught by Vinca Bonnaud, then by Chrystel Saussac at the Conservatory of Lyon (CRR). Finishing these studies in 2017, he started to work with Laurent Boullet in Berlin and then moved to London in 2019.

As a pianist, Louis-Victor really enjoys thinking and reflecting in depth on the composer’s intentions and individuality, always in pursuit of a better understanding of the score. He also deeply cares about developing his repertoire in all directions, whether it be in performing contemporary music, the study of authentic instruments or performing rarely played pieces (including less-known female composers).

Louis-Victor has recently performed as a soloist at St Paul’s Bedford and at the Amaryllis Fleming Hall of the Royal College of Music. He has also performed in France (Salle Witkowski, Palais St Jean, Musée des Tissus et des Arts Décoratifs de Lyon, Salle Debussy), Sardinia and Switzerland. In 2015, he was invited to perform in the festival “Musique et Or” and in the 17th edition of the festival “Printemps des Poètes”. Louis-Victor took part in prestigious summer academies such as the International Music Academy of Cagliari in 2016 and the International Music Academy of Flaine in 2012, 2013 and 2015, where he had the opportunity to perform both solo and chamber music. He also had the chance to work with artists and professors such as François Dumont (Concert Pianist), Jean-François Antonioli (HEMU Lausanne, CH), Cecile Edel-Latos (Ecole Normale de Paris, FR), Florent Boffard (CNSMD Paris, FR) and Claire Desert (CNSMD Paris, FR).

In 2014, Louis-Victor received distinctions at the Chatou Competition and the Claude-Kahn Competition, and he was also awarded two merit-based grants to study at the Conservatory of Lyon in 2015 and 2016.

Louis-Victor Bak is currently studying at the Royal College of Music, London for a Bachelor of Music with Edna Stern. At the same time, he is studying Pianophysiology and Musical Interpretation in Berlin with Laurent Boullet, who is Head of Department “Piano Technique & Physiology” at the International Piano Academy Lake Como.
