Susanna Braun - Piano

Biography

Susanna Braun was born in The Hague on 7th of June 1999 to Swiss parents and began learning the piano at the age of 9 with private tutor Danilo Manto in Milan. From September 2012 to June 2017 she studied in Manchester at Chetham’s School of Music with Helen Krizos. Furthermore, from September 2016 to June 2017 she attended the ‘Schola Cantorum de Paris’, class of Maurizio Moretti, where she was awarded the Diplôme Superiore with unanimous highest mention and congratulations of the jury. End of 2016 she won various scholarships to prestigious British conservatoires - Royal Academy of Music, Guildhall School of Music & Drama and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Presently she is studying for her bachelor’s degree at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in the class of Helen Krizos. Since 2018 she is receiving further guidance from Boris Petrushansky in Italy.

She has received a number of awards, including ‘The Marjorie Clementi Memorial Award’ (RNCM School of Keyboard Studies), ‘Weidenkam Culture Fonds’ from Swiss Association Derecha (Full scholarship 2019), ‘NOBFoerderpreis’ 2019 (Encouragement prize from ‘Neues Orchester Basel’), ‘Swiss Youth Music Competition’ (SJMW) Entrada 2019 (1st prize with mention), ‘10th International Piano Competition for Young Musicians’ (Winner, Enschede 2018), ‘Ferrara International Piano Festival’ (Winner, Ferrara 2018), ‘7th Andrea Baldi International Piano Competition’ (1st prize absolute ex-aequo, Bologna 2017), ‘International Anton Rubinstein Competition’ (2nd prize, Dusseldorf 2017), ‘8th International Rosario-Marciano Competition’ (3rd prize, Vienna 2016), ‘RNCM Chopin Prize’ (Winner, Manchester 2015), ‘Mazovia XXII International Chopin Festival’ (Winner, Warsaw 2014), ‘4th International Piano Competition Piano Talents’ (Winner of ‘Bach prize’ and 1st category prize, Milan 2014), ‘Euterpe International Music Competition’ (1st prize absolute, Corato Italy 2014), ‘International Cesar Franck Piano Competition’ (2nd prize, Kraainem Belgium 2014), ‘Terzo Musica Valle Bormida’ (2nd prize, Italy 2011), National Competition ‘E lucevan le stele’ (1st prize absolute, Parma Italy 2011).

Susanna has participated and performed in various International Music Festivals including the ‘Piano Academy Eppan’ 2019 (Italy), X International Summer Piano Academy Disentis, (Switzerland), ‘Sobrio Festival 2019’ (Switzerland), ‘Accademia e Festival Internazionale di Musica di Cagliari’ (Italy), ‘Ferrara International Piano Festival’ (Italy), ‘Birmingham International Piano Festival’ (UK), ‘Klangperspektiven Allg u’ (Memmingen, Germany), ‘Academie de musique Tibor Varga’ (Sion, Switzerland), ‘International Piano Academy – Incontri col Maestro’ (Imola, Italy), ‘Alberta Pianofest 2015’ (Edmonton, Canada), ‘Chetham’s International Summer School and Festival for Pianists’ (Manchester, UK). Among others she has worked with artists such as Philippe Cassard, Matti Raekallio, Rena Shereshevskaya, Enrico Pace, Christopher Elton, Jeffrey Swann, Kathryn Stott, Andrea Bonatta, Lilya Zilberstein, Boris Berman, Alberto Nose, Philippe Raskin, Roland Krueger, Pascal Nemirovski, Maragret Fingerhut, Ingrid Filter, Norma Fisher, Peter Donohoe, Jin Ju, Jerome Lowenthal and Ian Jones.

She has given solo recitals in the UK, Italy, France, Austria, Canada, Poland, Switzerland, Holland, Germany and performed in a variety of venues including Martinskirche Basel, Town Hall Birmingham, St. James Piccadilly Church and St. Olaves Hart Street Church London, Bridgewater Hall Manchester, Recital Hall of Royal Birmingham Conservatory, Grosser Ehrbar-Saal Vienna, in Italy: Ridotto del Teatro Comunale ‘Claudio Abbado’ Ferrara, ‘Centro Culturale’ Ozzano, Marfisa d'Este Ferrara, ‘Sala Andrea e Rossano Baldi’, Bologna.

In addition to her love of the piano, Susanna is also an accomplished violinist who is fluent in English, German and Italian. In her spare time, she enjoys philosophy and mountaineering.
