Johanna Röhrig - Violin


Born in 1993 in Hamburg, Germany, Johanna is studying for a Bachelor of Music degree at the Royal Academy of Music, London, with Prof. Nicholas Miller, supported by the Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation Hamburg. In addition to her regular coaching, she has taken part in masterclasses with Stephan Picard, Tanja Becker-Bender and Petru Munteanu and received further tuition from Erich Grünberg and Baiba Skride

In January 2016, Johanna won 2nd prize at the International Competition Città di Padova in Italy and has just recently returned for several recitals in Abano, Padova and Venice in November. She was awarded 1st prize at the International Spring Academy Competition Neustadt (2014), winning 3rd prizes of the GrinioAcademy (2013) and the LIONS-Music-Prize (2016).

As a soloist Johanna has performed with orchestras such as Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock (broadcast on Deutschlandradio Kultur) and Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto. She is a member of the ensemble c4, a baroque ensemble based in Berlin and was invited to festivals including AURORA chamber music festival in Sweden (2015) and Evmelia Festival in Greece (next spring). Her chamber music partners include Benjamin Schmid, Xenia Jankovic, Markus Schirmer and Peter Bruns.

She has played as concertmaster of the LJO Hamburg and the International Regions Orchestra Baden-Württemberg and is a member of the Academy of the Junge Norddeutsche Philharmonie. Taking part in several co-operative projects with orchestras such as NDR Hamburg and Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock she played under conductors including Zubin Mehta and Thomas Hengelbrock.

She is currently performing on a violin by Joannes Francesco Pressenda from 1833, Turin, which is kindly provided to her by the Royal Academy of Music in London.
