Lixin Liu is a soprano who gained her Bachelor Degree from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2015, and is now a second-year Masters student under the tutelage of Mary Plazas at the RNCM. She was selected as a member of the first group of RNCM ‘Songsters’ singers in 2015-2016, giving her numerous opportunities to perform in different concerts and to work with great artists such as Sir Thomas Allen, Sir John Tomlinson, Julius Drake and Alice Coote. She has been selected as a member of the ‘Songsters’ again this year. She is also one of the finalists for the Joyce and Michael Kennedy Award for the Singing of Strauss 2017.
Since being at the college, Lixin has performed the role of Sophie (Werther), Constance (Dialogues de Carmelites), Clara (La Vie Parisienne), Laurette (Le Docteur Miracle) and Ilia (Idomeneo) as part of RNCM Opera Scenes. She has also played the role of Gretel (Hansel und Gretel), Clorinda (La Cenerentola) and Fox Cubs (The Cunning Little Vixen) in various summer schools. Her solo experiences include singing at London Cadogan Hall, London’s O2 Arena and Leeds Town Hall. In addition, she has been invited to the Chinese Consulate General in Manchester numerous times to perform at various occasions. Her recent solo engagements include singing Beethoven’s Mass in C with CHORALE and Cheshire Sinfonia, Handel’s Dixit Dominus and Bach’s Magnificat in D with William Byrd Singers of Manchester.
